As part of our inquiry on “Connected to…our town”, All the year two’s went on a LONG walk through our town, stopping to visit some of the sites unique to Whakatane. Even though we were really hot and exhausted…we enjoyed our day and learned so much

Balloons Galore
August 14, 2009As I went outside my balloon popped..Luckily Mrs Mitchley had another squeaky balloon…But when it popped too,we went back inside because heaps of our colourful balloons popped. Finally Mrs Mitchley said, “If you still have a balloon you can keep it.” EVE SMITH
All the colourful balloons went high in the air.”Oh no.” I said.”The balloons were floating over the wooden fence. Now the dog will pop the balloons” Luckily the colourful ballons floated back. Suddenly something went “Pop!” It was Eve’s balloon. Excitedly we played a balloon game. We had to put the balloons in the middle of our legs. It was fun. AIMEE DAIN
Suddenly Mrs Mitchley gave us balloons. Mine was light green. It smelt like oil and it felt rubbery. We took our bouncy balloons outside. When we were throwing the balloons up,mine floated away. Finally I got it back by catching it in my hands. MAHINARANGI DAVIS

A Special Day
August 8, 2009Our Teacher Aide, Kevin Main, has just completed his “School Based Literacy Assistant” training and today was his graduation. Brandon and Eve were our class representatives. Here are their stories and some photo’s of his special day.
Suddenly Mrs Mitchley said…”Who would like to come to Kevin’s graduation?” All of us put up our hands, but Mrs Mitchley could only choose two people. She said “This is going to be hard!” Luckily she chose me and Brandon. We went but it took such a long time. First a lady talked, then another and another and it was so boring until Kevin got his certificate. I felt proud of him. Then I realized I felt hungry and I gobbled up some food.First I had Salmon and then I had chocolate and marshmallows…yum. But then it was time to go back to school.

One day Mrs Mitchley said, “Who would like to come to Kevin’s graduation?” “Oh I do” I shouted. “Brandon you can come.” She said. I was so excited but when we got in the truck it was so hot. I rolled down the window but it was stuck. Finally the window opened,I thought it was magic. When we got there all they did was talk.”What is going to happen?” I said to myself. Then Kevin got his certificate. I was proud of him. Then finally I got to eat.
